    I’m Mad for Madeleines

    I’ve been on a madeleine craze lately. They are simple to make and the batter can be made in advance and kept in the fridge. These delicate morsels are best eaten fresh as even 1 day would greatly affect their texture. I use Chef Dominique Ansel’s recipe (with modifications depending on flavor) which can be found here.

    Cherry Creek Falls

    We’ve been meaning to go hiking more, but we have a few criteria that the trail must meet to entice us to go: within our fitness level, not too far, and with a scenic goal. Enter Cherry Creek Falls; a 5 mile out-and-back trail to a waterfall. It’s nice that the trail is shaded by tall trees. Along the way are a bunch of Easter Eggs to find: 2 car wrecks and many googly-eyed rocks.

    Lavender Season

    Sequim during lavender season has always been on my to-do list so during a search of potential campsites, Sequim Bay State Park caught my eye. On the way, we took the Hood Canal Floating Bridge where we had the opportunity to view a submarine passing by. Our humble abode for the night. The campsite was very nice. It seemed like they combed the ground of our site and reminded me of one of those sand zen gardens. For dinner, we decided to keep it simple and have dehydrated food.     We Have Become Chain Smokers

    Rick and I had been debating about getting a grill and/or a smoker for a while. We decided to purchase the Traeger Ironwood XL. The idea of having a wood pellet smoker with many convenient features that allow us to focus on the food and not the fuss was very appealing. It has only been a week since we purchased it, but we have already made so many things! Here is a quick write-up of how we smoked each item.
